ARCHITECTURE

Japanese architect Mr. Norihiko Dan led the design of the buildings at Being Space in Yangxianxishan, Yixing. Mr. Norihiko Dan believes that architecture can best showcase its advantages when it maintains a harmonious relationship with nature. His work is characterized by a type of harmony that is evident throughout. The internal and external landscapes are designed with a rational, systematic, and exquisite approach, ensuring coherence between the project, its form, and its various components. Furthermore, each individual piece is carefully considered in the context of the whole.

The architectural composition elements of this project involve the arrangement of a gallery and shop for showcasing pottery on the ground floor within a townhouse (longitudinal layout), while the restaurant is situated on the second floor. At the other end of the elongated semi-outdoor water pond is a locally-themed traditional craft art museum, with the second floor on this side designated for conference space and a terrace. Additionally, around the courtyard, there are pottery workshops, a school, and kilns, where the pottery artist's own studio and residence are also located. Next to the water pond, there is a Chinese tea room and an exclusive space for VIPs. The upper area is connected by a corridor and garden, creating an expansive spatial view oriented towards the picturesque countryside. The Being Space architecture is fully integrated with the surrounding geographical environment. The curve of the building’s roof echoes the mountainous terrain of Yangxianxi Mountain and forms a flowing view from inside the building. In the form of the style of Jiangnan corridor, thereby continuing the unique spatial design providing the interactions between the viewers and the scene. The viewer is also part of the scene itself. The narrow and long stairs lead people to explore each individual space as a unit, bringing back memories of the local lanes designed in the Jiangnan region. The elements of steel and glass balance the modern and regional architectural history.
